WHAT IS KUK SOOL?
Kuk Sool is a comprehensive martial arts system. The present Kuk Sool syllabus was devised only recently. Kuk Sool is not a sport, nor is it simply another oriental self defense method, but a complete martial art dedicated to the cultivation of mental strength, well being, and the preservation of traditional Korean Martial Arts.
Derived from the rich and varied techniques and traditions that have arisen in Korea through the ages, Kuk Sools’ origins may be traced back to antiquity. Grandmaster In Hyuk Suh has spent more than sixty years in single minded practice and research in order to learn, compile, master, and organize the more than 3,600 techniques that comprise Kuk Sool. He founded the World Kuk Sool Association in 1961 and took it to the United States in 1974.
The World Kuk Sool Association now has its headquarters in Houston Texas, and has grown to include schools worldwide and continues to increase in strength and numbers daily.

Kuk Sool Won combines kicking, punching, throwing, choking, joint-locking, acrobatics,
and a dynamic “hard-soft” style emphasizing speed and fluidity. Physical training,
meditation, and acupressure techniques are employed to improve and maintain health,
to develop internal power, and to retard the aging process.
Philosophically, Kuk Sool Won stresses humility, self-disipline, self-control, loyalty,
and respect for others. Together, these aspects of Kuk Sool Won provide the means
for attaining a long and healthy life.

Kuk Sool Won is unlike many other Martial Arts since it offers both physical training,
and a self-defence sytem which relys on applied technique rather than pure strength
to overcome or subdue an attacker. Kuk Sool is regarded as a “hard-soft” style in
that the type of movements used compliment the body’s own natural movement to enhance
balance, coordination and speed.
Because of the Kuk Sool Won approach to training, students of all ages and ability
are able to improve all aspects of their physical fitness both cardiovascular and
muscular and at the same time enjoy the continuous and beneficial process of learning
one of the most comprehensive self-defense systems available from any Martial Art.
